The Coconut Kitchens team is led by us - Niranjala and Prakash, we are both professional chefs who strongly believe in happy cooking. We were both born in Sri Lanka and came over to the UK for university almost 35 years ago.
We are passionate about cooking, so much so we have now co-authored a recipe book ‘Sri Lanka: The Cookbook,’ published by Frances Lincoln, an imprint of the Quarto Group already available to pre-order on Amazon. The book will be released on 4th May 2017 in London. We are pleased to say that our book is also listed in the 2017 Edinburgh International Book Festival.
When we came over to the UK as students, we had no alternative other than to cook our own food. This necessity of survival soon became a hobby and passion. We went on to open a Sri Lankan restaurant in Hampstead, London and ran this Award Winning restaurant for eight years as chefs. We have now sold the restaurant and decided to live life in a ‘slower lane’, but are continuing our passion for food by conducting cookery classes and sharing our experiences.
As people travel to the Indian Subcontinent and the Far East, they are now able to realise the diversity of the region, language, culture and eating habits. "The world is yet to discover the exquisite cuisine of this paradise island of Sri Lanka" - Rick Stein, celebrity chef.
Between us we have a wealth of knowledge and experience about the varying regional cuisines of Sri Lanka and we are well travelled. We have no doubt that you will enjoy our cookery lessons and the cookbook.
